Retrovir product description


Retrovir is an antiviral that is highly active in the fight against retroviruses and HIV.

Retrovir is needed for admission in the following cases:

HIV virus (in adults and children older than 3 months): primary manifestations with a decrease in CD4 lymphocytes below 400-500 μL, stage of incubation (stage 1), stage of secondary diseases (3A, 3B, 3B), Stage of acute infection (2A),children without features of HIV who have a significant decrease in their immune status.

Prevention of occupational infection of people who received injections and cuts when worked with contaminated HIV material, and transplacental HIV virus of the fetus.

The dose of Retrovir is chosen individually and depends on the stage of the illness, the degree of preservation of the reserves of the bone marrow, the body weight of the human, the response to medicine.

Contraindications

People who are very sensitive to Zidovudine ( the main ingredient of Retrovir) or any other component of the medicine must not use it. In addition,Retrovir is not allowed to ill people with a low percent of hemoglobin and neutrophilic leukocytes.

Retrovir for children under 3 months should be prescribed very attentively, and the drug should not be taken to people with a deficiency of folic acid and vitamin B12. Retrovir should also not be recommended to sick people who have kidney failure.

There is a suggestion that such drugs as paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid, indomethacin, ketoprofen, codeine, morphine, and others reduce the process of Retrovir digestion. In complex with ribavirin, Retrovir also loses its qualities in the fight against the virus.

This fact tells that before starting treatment with Retrovir, you have to pass all the tests of the medical remedies taken before since the wrong complex can lead to toxicity of the drug or a decrease in its activity.

The drug must not be used before the 14th week of pregnancy, as it penetrates the placenta. It can be prescribed only if the health benefits for mother health exceed the benefits of the health of the child. In addition, women who take Retrovir are not allowed to breastfeed.


Overdose
