Remeron Product Description


Drug Uses

Remeron is a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant, characterized by sedative action. This antidepressant is prescribed to adolescents aged from 18 years, adults, and elderly patients to treat major depressive disorder.

A recommended initial dose of Remeron is 15 mg per day. A daily initial dose of Remeron is recommended to be taken before bedtime. For treatment of severe depression, adults and elderly patients can be indicated with a higher dose, 30 to 45 mg of Remeron a day.

To achieve a significant antidepressant effect, Remeron tablets should be taken regularly for a few weeks or months. The duration of antidepressant therapy with Remeron can be 6 months.


Missed Dose

If you forgot to take your prescribed dose of Remeron in time in the evening, do not use this antidepressant tablet next morning and do not double the next dose. Just skip the missed Remeron dose and then follow the assigned dosing regimen. You can take the missed dose of Remeron on the same day when it was missed, before sleep.


More Information

If no signs of improvement in the patient’s mental status within 2 months of application of Remeron tablets, taking of antidepressant Remeron should be ceased.


Storage

Keep Remeron in the original package or in the tightly closed container in order to protect tablets from moisture and light. Store this antidepressant agent in a warm dark place at room temperature not above 30°C.

Warnings

In the beginning of the depression treatment, Remeron may exacerbate depression symptoms, and cause suicidal thoughts. Clinical investigations have demonstrated that this reversible side effect is more often observed in the young adults and the teenagers. In case of 2-3 months of Remeron application, the risk of suicidal ideation is not reported.

Remeron Side Effects


Remeron tablets may cause such undesirable effects, as fatigue, weight gain, increase in appetite, dry mouth or dizziness. Hypertriglyceridemia or urticaria can be observed in the children taking this antidepressant agent.About 7% of cases of Remeron withdrawals are reported as caused by undesirable effects, most common are somnolence, headache, and sedation. Lower doses do not reduce the intensity of these undesirable effects, but can decrease the effectiveness of Remeron.
