Drug Uses

Minipress is an antihypertensive agent that prevents the increase in diastolic or systolic blood pressure. The drug is prescribed to people, suffering from hypertension of different severity grade. Minipress pills are also used in combination with other antihypertensive agents, as part of a treatment program of chronic heart failure. The drug is useful for controlling the duration and severity of the Raynaud's phenomenon symptoms.

To reduce vascular resistance, patients are advised taking 6 to 15 mg of Minipress per day in several divided doses. The initial Minipress dose of 2 or 3 mg per day should be increased gradually (if necessary, to 20 mg). The daily dosage may rarely be increased up to 40 mg of Minipress.


Missed Dose

If you remembered about the missed dose of Minipress, take it as soon as possible. In case the time for next prescribed intake of this antihypertensive drug is close, skip the missed Minipress dose and return to your usual dose schedule.


More Information

Minipress pills allow controlling the diastolic or systolic blood pressure, but the antihypertensive effect is more pronounced on the diastolic blood pressure. The efficacy of blood pressure control with Minipress remains at the same level, and does not depend on the duration of treatment with these pills.


Storage

Minipress pills should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 30°C in a warm dry place out of reach of children.

Warnings

When using the antihypertensive agent Minipress, the patients may experience syncopal episodes. The risk of a temporary loss of consciousness increases with an increase in the recommended daily dosage and/or use of Minipress pills in combination with other drugs for hypertension treatment.

Minipress Side Effects


Basically, the adverse events, caused by Minipress, have a mild nature, are not dependent on the dosage, and pass quickly in the further use of the drug. The most frequent adverse events of Minipress are postural hypotension (14%), faintness (10%), headache and drowsiness (8%), asthenia (7%), and dry mouth (6%). A little less, with a probability of 5%, palpitations, fatigue, nausea and malaise are possible, while the likelihood that Minipress cause nasal congestion, oedema or blurred vision is only 4%.
