Drug Uses

Grifulvin V is an anti-fungal agent for oral administration. Grifulvin V tablets are used to fight superficial infectious diseases of varying severity, caused by pathogenic genera of fungi.

Grifulvin V is prescribed to patients, who were victimized by various types of ringworm (dermatophytosis) infections, including ringworm of the scalp, body, nails, inner thighs, buttocks, groin (and sometimes the scrotum), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), ringworm of the beard and tinea unguium (dermatophytic onychomycosis).

The anti-fungal agent Grifulvin V enters the protozoa cells and blocks their ability to reproduce. The course of treatment with Grifulvin V should be extended until the moment, when the new tissue replaces damaged or diseased tissue.

For treatment of mild to moderate superficial pathologies, caused by pathogenic fungi, the patients are prescribed with Grifulvin V 375mg per day in single or divided doses. For controlling a more serious condition, or if the infection is difficult to eradicate, the patients are prescribed with Grifulvin V 750mg per day in two divided doses.

Missed dose

If you have not taken the prescribed dosage of Grifulvin V, please, take this anti-fungal agent as soon as you remember. You should not take the anti-fungal medication, if it is almost time for your next scheduled Grifulvin V dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

More Information

Genera of fungi, responsible for the disease, should be determined before you start the anti-fungal therapy. The recommended treatment duration with Grifulvin V tablets ranges from 2 to 8 weeks, and can be prolonged up to 6 months, if necessary.

Warnings

Grifulvin V is only intended for oral administration and should not be used for prevention of fungal infections. Grifulvin V can cause sun allergy, so patients should avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Grifulvin V can modify the effect of birth control pills, so mechanical contraception methods are recommended within the treatment with this antifungal medication. Grifulvin V is contraindicated in pregnancy, or to the patients, who are planning to become pregnant within 30 days after the treatment discontinuation.
