Effexor - antidepressant. Active ingredient - venlafaxine and its main metabolite O-desmetilvenlafaxine which are strong inhibitors of the return serotonin reuptake and noradrenaline and weak inhibitors of the return capture of a dopamine. Effexor Product Description
Drug Uses
Effexor is a new type of antidepressant, related to the class of serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. Effexor inhibits reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine in a lesser extent, by increasing the concentration of neurotransmitters in the brain and in the body.
Structurally new antidepressant Effexor is prescribed to adolescents aged 18 and older, adults and elderly patients for symptomatic relief of:
anxiety
panic disorder
social anxiety disorder
major depressive disorder
The therapeutic dose of Effexor is matched, depending on the patient's state and positive response to antidepressant treatment. The recommended initial dose of Effexor makes 75mg per day. Effexor initial daily dose is divided into 2-3 doses and must be taken during a meal.
If the antidepressant effect is poorly achieved, Effexor daily dose can be increased to 150 mg. For severe psychiatric disorders treatment, the maximum daily dose of 350 mg of Effexor can be administered.
Missed Dose
If you’ve accidentally missed a dose of Effexor, do not try to compensate the effect by a double dose of the antidepressant. Wait for the time of the next dose of Effexor and skip the missed one. However, if there is a lot of time to the next dose of the drug, you can take a missed dose of Effexor as soon as you remember about it.
More Information
Postmarketing studies of Effexor revealed that at discontinuation of this antidepressant (especially in abrupt withdrawal), the patients may experience side effects. Therefore, Effexor withdrawal should be gradual.
The antidepressant effect of Effexor develops gradually. Significant improvement of the mental health can be observed in a few weeks of systematic application of Effexor. Effexor Side Effects
