Drug Uses

Cymbalta is an oral drug with an antidepressant and analgesic action.

As an antidepressant agent, Cymbalta is used to improve mental status in patients with:

generalized anxiety disorder (GAD);

major depressive disorder (MDD).

As an analgesic, Cymbalta is indicated for:

management of painful diabetic neuropathy;

relief of diffuse musculoskeletal pain caused by fibromyalgia syndrome;

treatment of chronic pain associated with damaged muscles, soft tissues, joints, ligaments, tendons, and bones.

The total effective dose of Cymbalta ranges from 40 to 60 mg per day. The initial daily dose of Cymbalta for children aged from 7 to 17 years old and the elderly above 70 years makes 30 mg.

Missed Dose

Cymbalta capsules are recommended to be taken 1-2 times a day, spaced by equal intervals. If you have accidentally missed the prescribed time of the drug intake, take Cymbalta capsules as soon as you remember. If it took long time after a Cymbalta capsule was missed, take your next dose of the antidepressant at the normal scheduled time.

Cymbalta capsules can be used for long-term antidepressant therapy. The first antidepressive response should be assessed in 60 days after the start of Cymbalta application.

Storage

Cymbalta capsules should be protected from moisture and stored in an original package at room temperature not exceeding 30°C.

Cymbalta Side Effects

Most common adverse effects are mild to moderate and appear at the beginning of treatment with Cymbalta. Approximately 5% of the patients may observe effects, caused by this drug, for example: headache, hyperhidrosis and decreased appetite. After the application of Cymbalta diabetic patients may observe somnolence, dry mouth, fatigue and constipation. Normally, the listed adverse effects disappear in long-term use of Cymbalta.
